Nanjing Planetarium

In the universe of China’s astronomical thinking, Nanjing is a shining star. The city’s Purple Mountain Observatory may have been usurped by more modern and powerful telescopes elsewhere in China, but the site and the city remain at the heart of Chinese astronomical research.

Having been approached directly by the client (China Academy of Sciences) to take part in an international concept design competition, we submitted a bold outline scheme for a ‘Nanjing Planetarium and Space Science Exploration Park’.

Our concept for this multi-faceted site combined the functionality of museum, themed visitor attraction, cultural venue, resort and scientific / academic research facility.
