Lake Dongting

Lake Dongting

Summer 2017 and IM were in Yueyang researching for a new museum project.

When we first visited Lake Dongting we couldn’t actually see it! Shrouded in thick mist the outlines of huge dredgers drifted past like ghostly apparitions as they plied the shallows mining for sand.

A vital flood basin of the Yangtze River Lake Dongting is a shape shifter, its volume and dimensions fluctuating wildly with the season.

The rich and fertile sediments deposited by the Yangtze, made the lake an important cradle for early civilization, who in turn have left a rich and fascinating legacy for IM storytellers to present.
