Aurora Wellbeing

Heritage health in action

Aurora Wellbeing in Worksop is a friendly community space for people affected by cancer and long-term health conditions. Based in the Old Library and Museum, Aurora offers advice, support, activities and therapies in a safe and welcoming environment.

Our brief was to work with Aurora volunteers and Bassetlaw Museum to create a place where people can meet, learn, talk, reminisce and use heritage to help negotiate their way through difficult times.

We devised a flexible display for the central Heritage Hub that reflects the iconic stained glass skylight above. The modules can be used for object display or graphics, and be arranged for themed displays as a catalyst for conversation and heritage therapy sessions. At the centre is a group meeting place, whilst other areas have been created for individuals or small groups to meet and chat about objects or listen to oral histories, including “My Aurora Journey”.

The volunteers have been trained in object photography and display and interpretive writing, and will grow the database of objects in the virtual museum over the coming years.
